The acquisition of sovereign territory is rightfully accomplished only by negotiation between equal and independent parties. He could see no moral equivalence between himself trying to buy Greenland and the Russian annexation of Crimea. The price that others may have to pay is of no account in his estimation and features only as juxtaposed to his own avarice. And measures success only by the count of his extortion. Lying comes easy to one so wrapped in devious corruption that he cannot see the value in virtuous living.
